917. LaytownThese are twin seaside resorts on the short strip of coastline which is County Meath's only outlet to the sea. A magnificent sandy beach stretches 6 miles (10 km) from south of Laytown to the mouth of the Boyne at Mornington. The eight-century Tara Brooch, one of the finest examples of the goldsmith's art in Early Christian Ireland, was found on the beach at Bettystown in 1850.
